DTP is a process of composing a page through positioning textual and graphic elements, as well as a result of this process.

The makeup is carried out on computers with special software, the most popular of which: Ventura Publisher, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe FrameMaker, CorelDraw, Microsoft Publisher and QuarkXPress, Adobe InDesign. An alternative to visual programs is a computer makeup system such as LaTeX and Lout.

Basic requirements for the makeup are the following: an absolutely exact line size, both by the line width (the line format) and height, without any skews or "protrusions"; the identity of the makeup throughout the whole document, identity of all impositions in the opening lines, approximate identity of spacing of all headings and subheadings of various ranks, as well as that of notes in the text, footnotes, formulas, tables and illustrations, figure captions, and identical spacing running titles and folios, labels and signatures, etc.

1. The changing text size. When translated into some languages, a text may get longer by 30-50%;
2. Changes in the text form. When translated into another language, the text font, line spacing and symbols can change;
